Mount remote directory as drive :D

This would be really awesome if you could mount the remote dir as a drive. I noticed it is already in your wish list.

Just out of curiosity, is there a way of doing this in Windows without WinSCP? It would allow me to automate the process of scp'ing to a remote machine. Any help would be appreciated.

You can use some command-line SCP client to automate SCP (e.g. PSCP)
EDIT: WinSCP supports scripting now too:
Automate file transfers (or synchronization) to FTP server or SFTP server

You could run SAMBA on the Linux machine, then it would be available as a network share and you could mount it as a drive on your Windows machine.

I'm not quite positive about the security of SAMBA, but I believe it's secure enough.

Just a thought.

Wow! It would be fantastic if SCP could be used to mount remote directory as drive X:

I'm on a corporate LAN and I am designing a corporate intranet web site. Most of our internal servers only allow SCP access for security reasons. Unfortunately Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft Front Page, and Adobe Go Live do not have SCP options. If you could make this feature, it would be a life saver. I wager that website designers around the world would also LOVE this option.

Lets face it, when it comes to servers, it's a UNIX world. But most web development is still done on the PC. You'd be helping lots of folks!

As for the SAMBA option. According to my sys admins at my job, it's still not as safe as SCP. :(

Now THAT is one hell of a good idea!
It could really help and make so much stuff ever so more easy.

Hope this will be on the full release of WinSCP3.

Or even if it just made a folder that another application can see/write to. This would solve the dreamweaver etc problem. I'm not a windows developer so I don't know but that might be easier than making another drive.

Just getting off topic but if you can't let other ports be opened, just port forward your applications using ssh connection, or create vpn.

Not sure if WinSCP has port forwarding option, but PuTTY does the job.

SCP mounting is something i totally get used to with on linux, alternatives like samba are just way to much overhead and generally its not always possible to get additional software running on a rented server. I would absolutely apprecate such a feature on Windows build in with great software. (There are solutions nowadays, but properitary buggy ones)

There is a solution to this problem. It does not involve WinSCP. WinSCP is great software but for mounting remotes there is this solution:

For the particular case where you will be doing a lot of editing on remote files and need shell integration this would be useful.
