Using WinSCP to connect to Cisco Catalyst 3750G switches

I am trying to connect to Cisco Catalyst 3750G switches to both copy config and firmware onto the switch. I've enabled scp on the switch and configured a local account.
I can connect and authenticate to the switch but do not get a directory listing.
I get a timeout after a short while with the error "Error skipping start-up message. Your shell is probably incompatible with the application (BASH is recommended)".
I've tried all of the shell options in WinSCP by default but no success.

Can anyone advise where I'm going wrong?

The switches are running ether 12.5 or 15.5 IOS versions.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Re: Using WinSCP to connect to Cisco Catalyst 3750G switches

Please attach a full session log file showing the problem (using the latest version of WinSCP).

To generate the session log file, enable logging, log in to your server and do the operation and only the operation that causes the error. Submit the log with your post as an attachment. Note that passwords and passphrases not stored in the log. You may want to remove other data you consider sensitive though, such as host names, IP addresses, account names or file names (unless they are relevant to the problem). If you do not want to post the log publicly, you can mark the attachment as private.
