open edit files by simple typing /etc/file.conf

Thanks for excellent and developing software, first of all !
So many years and so many features added - but why still no simple opening by editor of any file using something like

edit /etc/my.cnf

Instead of that, every time you should go to /etc...wait for refresh...type 'm' a few times until it will locate exactly 'my.cnf' - and ONLY THEN you can open file...how many HOURS are wasted for these seconds of waiting ? :) if you are a sysadmin and spend your life configuring servers.

All we need - just a simple block where you focus, type
edit /etc/my.cnf
and file opened !

Please ! I hope WinCP community will agree with me.
This is not a specific feature - but feature for everyone's convenience ! And lifetime saving too :)

SHAME ON ME :lol: I use WinSCP more than 2 years and I did not read README properly...I was thinking SHIFT+F4 is only to create NEW files but not edit existing one...shame on me, again...

My only remark is - after restart of WinSCP it does not save previous links.
But usually sysadmin edit a certain set of files...like /etc/my.cnf, /etc/php.ini and so on.
Why not leave the list in a memory ?
Please, extend a memory for WinSCP SHIFT=F4 for last 50 links - and you have 90% of the files where you usually do a direct edit calls...

I hope at-least this remark will be useful to improve WinSCP even better,

I've tested dev version - yes, now it remembers the list of the files edited using Shift+F4 after restarts of WinSCP.
So you can mark the bug as solved and include to next release of WinSCP.

But how many files it "keeps in memory", is it possible to setup using settings in Preferences ?

And let me offer a feature of "context narrowing search" while typing in Shift+F4 box.
I mean you type "fst" - and it offers
/etc/fstab
You type "cnf"- and it offers
/etc/my.cnf
something like that.

With this solution - Shift+F4 feature will become a finished advanced tool for storing and fast editor accessing to the files on server which sysadmin edits on a regular basis.

hmm Shift-F4 doesn't work for me, does nothing. Version 5.7.4
I use Ctrl-o to open folder. But again, my problem is, that I can't paste the whole path to the file, I have to cut the filename and leave only the path - and then navigate to the file
It would be useful to allow Ctrl-O to open files too - navigate to the folder and then select the file. So I can quickly do whatever I want with the file

So Shift-F4 works only in Commander interface, in Explorer interface it doesn't work
But still, my feature request stands :)
