The problem happens rarely. I cannot reproduce it.

To reproduce: Start a session to a remote computer, then use Win Control Panel to Disable the NIC, allow 2 - 3 days of pop-up mesg: Can't reach destination, retrying in __ seconds.

(I'm guessing a resource leak.)

The problem happens rarely. I cannot reproduce it.

I don't know what might have happened, computer was locked, possibly went to sleep. Prior to locking it, I have been using Openvpn with winscp to acces remote directories.

It was just sitting there over the weekend when it crashed. It was probably trying to repeatedly login to a device that got disconnected.

The problem happens rarely. I cannot reproduce it.

Hibernated notebook with open connection over VPN. After wakeup from hibernation the VPN was not active so the WinSCP could not re-establish the connection. The VPN adds new virtual interface when activated and removes it when the VPN is deactivated. Maybe the WinSCP was trying to re-eastablish connection at the same time when the VPN was disabling the virtual interface?

WinSCP stayed in the idle state for a weekend, and after it, i've met that error on all of my opened sessions. Unfortunately, session logging was disabled.

I'm connecting to remote servers over a VPN. The VPN drops occasionally and I have to reconnect manually, after which WinSCP usually picks up the connection (after I click 'reconnect' in the dialog box).
This error appeared after the laptop resumed from suspended state (sleep, NOT hibernate) and the VPN had dropped.
I'll try to reproduce.

Hi:

I checked "I know how to reproduce this problem" because this looks like a similar problem I had in the past which was eventually fixed. (I think that this may be a regression, share some underlying cause, and/or have a similar cause.)

I just upgraded to this latest version of WinSCP, so this occurred on the first night this new version of WinSCP was left running on my idle PC.

At night I disable networking (via Windows Control Panel). In a prior version of WinSCP, this caused a crash regularly, by not deterministicly - like maybe a race condition. However, the version I was using most recently prior to yesterday's upgrade had never crashed this way.

I run WinSCP with Pagent, and in this case the other end of the link was a local Centos 7 machine just recently updated.

To reproduce this problem: I opened WinSCP yesterday morning (after letting it upgrade.) I uploaded & downloaded some files, and otherwise left WinSCP idle most of the day. Several times during the day, I disabled the network (it helps FireFox get its act back together - I have LOTS of tabs open.) None of these network shutdowns during the day triggered a crash, but after I again shutdown the network overnight, I came in this morning to this crash. Based on this, it would appear that the crash is not deterministic, so reproducing it may take longer on any individual run.

Second crash today. I sent a report earlier on the prior crash, saying that I thought it might have something to do with my shutting off networking overnight (during which it crashed.)

This time, I don't recall shutting off networking, or even up or downloading files. I'm not even sure that I reopened any session to a remote host. (Or is this just the same crash as before that I never cleared after sending in the prior report? I see no timestamp to check.)

I've received the debug version of WinSCP, and was just going to install it when I noticed this crash.

I left WinSCP running & connected overnight. It crashed (& I reported) on the prior version. I was sent a link to down load & run a debug version, which I did, until this latest version came.

I've had & reported this (or similar) problem before with an even older (6 mos - 1 yr?) version.

On that old version, WinSCP would crash somewhere between 30% - 50% of the nights when I downed the net connection (from Win Control Panel) before knocking off for the day. Given the repeatability, but not deterministic rate of crashes, I'm guessing a race condition.

If you have another debug version you would like me to run, please advise.

While WinSCP is running with an active session (to a box on the local subnet), via Win Control Panel, I turn off the network when I stop for the night. Maybe half the time this version of WinSCP has crashed when I get started the next day.

I'm not really complaining; seems to be a "bug" mainly in that there's an error message, in this situation. This message (or similar) pops up when my laptop wakes up from sleeping with the WinSCP window minimized, while working remotely via VPN to my office's Linux computer. The VPN link is gone and the program gets confused. It'd be best to simply report the lost link, and go away.

If the WinSCP window is open when the link drops, the UI's behavior is rather annoying: the reconnect/log-in pop-up steals the focus and won't back down until the link is back, with the only other option being exiting the program. A more graceful return to the opening screen would be nice. I do like that each connection remembers which directories it was in, once restored.

Overall it's a great work-horse utility, worry-free regarding data integrity, reliable, swift transfers, and intuitive UI.

I'm not totally sure when this happened - I just got up this morning and went to my computer and found this error. The computer has probably been suspended a few times between now and the last time I was using WinSCP. This isn't the first time I've seen a similar error (granted, I never have noted the specifics or reported it), and I think most of the time it happens after prolonged periods where the computer has most likely gone to sleep or hibernated in between use of the program and receiving the error. Btw, I always have WinSCP open and very rarely do I close the program.

I'm not sure if it helps, but I also have a Cisco AnyConnect VPN that gets disconnected every 12 hours or so. I think this also seems to happen more when the computer is put to sleep/hibernated, but because it's somewhat random, it's hard to tell when it actually happens. I'll see if I can figure out any other patterns.

Running in Windows 10 virtual machine on ESXi 6.7. Using FortiClient 5.6.6 to connect to work network. Only change was enabling keep-alive (null packets at 120-300 second intervals, depending on server). Left WinSCP connections up and locked computer after ending shift. VPN connection dropped overnight, but do not know if memory error happened at same time. I believe I only had text files on remote systems open at the time.
