I'll consider that. However there are some questions conected with the solution. For example, should there be any window of WinSCP shown when the file is opened?

P.S. It might be difficult to encode a request to open file in an editor within a 'sftp://' or 'scp://' URL.

While using a URL shortcut on the desktop would be the simplest solution, if it is not possible then maybe WinSCP can be called with [some] command line parameters that indicate it to open a file in an editor?

Q: Is it possible to create a Windows desktop shortcut to use WinSCP to edit a remote file [using SFTP]?

A: No it is not possible.

The this is the right forum.

The motivation is that many people use simple [text] files to put down notes, organize to-do lists, etc. In order to be able to access these files from many locations, you would want to store and access them remotely. So I could suggest them to use WinSCP to edit remote files, but they will only do this if it is extremely simple - e.g., as clicking an icon on the desktop.

Editing Remote Files - How to?

Is it possible to create a Windows desktop shortcut to use WinSCP to edit a remote file [using SFTP]?

WinSCP handles 'scp://' and 'sftp://' URLs - so one can create a shortcut with a URL pointing to this remote file.

The problem is that when clicking on this shortcut WinSCP tries to download the file to a local filesystem. Is it possible to tell WinSCP to open the file in text editor instead?
