We didn't remove that functionality.
Can you post some screenshots and a session log file documenting your problem?

In a previous version, the remote panel had the same parent directory icon above the files like the local panel currently has. It was more convenient than finding it in the buttons above and keeps my files lined up between local and remote directories. Could you add it back? Will gladly donate for this feature.
