For example, I am using WinSCP to interact with my testing webserver. When it is time for me to test a piece of work I have completed, I'm uploading website files to more than one directory, often multiple times (re-uploading files after quick bug fixes). Rather than navigating back and forth through the directory tree to upload and re-upload files, I open up a new WinSCP connection for each directory that I am uploading files to (each new connection corresponds to a WinSCP directory bookmark). Then, to navigate between the directories, I click the respective WinSCP icon/button on my Windows taskbar. With around five connections open, I tend to forget which taskbar item corresponds to which directory, and the taskbar item name only lists the name of the server connection not the directory or bookmark it is currently open to. It would make my workflow quit a bit easier if I could have a tabbed interface inside of a single WinSCP window that I could use to navigate between bookmarks and/or open connections.
