Look for "open directory" command. Ctrl+O is keyboard-shortcut. There is also button on toolbar.

Traversing the remote directory can be tedious when visiting many different directories that only have root (or distant ancestor directories) in common.

Why not allow us to enter the path directly, if the path isn't valid you can just ignore or indicate error.
